ICTs in Higher Education: Benefits, Challenges and Future Horizons
26 & 27 March 2018
Background
The importance of information and communication technologies is visible in different
spheres, particularly in higher education. Far from overestimating the role of ICTs, the implementation of technology-friendly teaching/learning environments is becoming a strategic, viable alternative for decision-makers at the level of higher education on a global scale. Given its countless benefits, an ICT-bound educational policy is an alluring pathway that is gaining ground within and across countries to the extent that technology free educational endeavors are on the way of becoming a relic from the past.
This being said, it is particularly important to mention that the implementation of ICT-based educational systems is in no way a challenge-free venture. The first challenge is to design technological platforms that truly meet the educational needs of learners. Second, it is imperative to ensure academic readiness from learners and, most importantly, from educators to adopt a technology-faithful paradigm. Third, it is important to take operational measures to face several challenges, namely class size which is usually too big to ease ICTs implementation in higher education.

Regardless of the constraining aspects, it seems that the advantages of ICTs in higher education far outweigh the disadvantages. Therefore, educational actors are called for to keep up the work on elaborating effective and efficient technological platforms that can reinforce the status of e-learning and distance education as a promising undertaking. For this target to come true, a total buy-in of the different educational stakeholders is highly solicited.
Within this realm, our conference aims at bringing together researchers, practitioners and experts from around the world to examine various parameters pertaining to ICTs’ implementation in higher education. In addition to being an interactive platform, this conference is meant to be a genuine opportunity to get ICT-concerned intellectuals connected, get them to reflect on facing the various relevant challenges, and figure out a future road map for solid, resourceful and truly practical ICT-bound systems in higher education.
